Whether you are considering applying for an internship in Australia or have already landed one, you might be wondering what are the things you need to get covered before you depart for this amazing journey. We have listed the most important points to consider before you embark on your flight:

1. Visa paperwork

There are different types of visas available depending on your profile and objectives. The most common visas you can use for your internship in Australia are:

408 Temporary Activity Visa – This visa lets you intern in Australia from 6 to 26 weeks under the Australian Internships (AI) sponsorship. AI will act as a sponsor for your visa application and take care of all documentation for you if you meet all the requirements. The 408 visa is available for internships in most academic disciplines. For more info click here.

407 Training Visa – This visa lets you intern in Australia for up to 12 months under the Australian Internships (AI) sponsorship. This visa allows you to receive a salary wage during your internship program and again, we take care of the entire application for you! We are able to organise this visa for internships in Hospitality. For more info click here.

Working Holiday Visa 417 and Work and Holiday Visa 462 – These visas are quite similar and allow you to enter Australia for a combination of Work and Holiday - as the name suggests – for up to one year. Internships of up to 6 months are also allowed under this visa. Requirements can vary slightly depending on your nationality. For more information, visit:

2. Insurance

It doesn’t matter what sort of visa you are applying for, you will be required to obtain proper insurance before you enter Australia so that you are covered for health, travel and accident. In addition, all Host Organisations (HO) require that you have liability insurance to cover you during your internship. Australian Internships provides full insurance to all candidates in the program, so you can come to Australia certain that you will get the best cover available! 3. Accommodation and flights

It is recommended to wait until all your internship arrangements such as visa, insurance and internship contract are ready before you book your accommodation and flights - this way you avoid paying any extra fees if you or the company need to change the internship start date, or in case your visa is delayed.
Your internship supervisor at Australian Internships will give you the green light once everything is ready, and will help you with all the best accommodation and flight options through AI.

4. Australian culture and Host Organisation

Learn everything you can about the Australian culture and your Host Organisation. Research the Australian lifestyle, transport options, living costs, and even grocery shops and hospitals that are close to your accommodation. Add some research about must-see attractions and make sure you know everything you need, to have fun and be safe at the same time.
About the Host Organisation, it is always a good idea to understand the company values, what they do, how they operate and their vision. It not only will help you to adapt to your internship faster but will also cause a good impression on your supervisor!

5. Packing

When packing for your internship in Australia you should consider the average temperature for that particular time of the year, the dressing code at your Host Organisations as listed in your Training Agreement or contract, and the type of internship you will be doing (office based or outdoor based for example). Don’t forget to pack your toiletries, any prescription medicines you use, electronics, adaptors and documents. And please, don’t forget to check with your airline what the checked baggage allowance is, so you don’t need to pay extra fees for any extra suitcase!

Get ready for the experience of a lifetime!
