Why did you choose to complete an Internship?

I was looking to get myself into the IT industry. I moved to Australia from New Zealand in October 2017. I used to work as Telecommunication Technician back in New Zealand but never worked in the core IT industry although I got my graduate Diploma Degree in Computer Network and System Administration it was hard to get into the IT industry if you are not a PR or Citizen or inexperienced. When I arrived in Australia. I tried my luck to get into the IT industry but unfortunately due to no work experience did not work but in 2020 after losing my full-time work I started again to apply for entry-level IT jobs but due to almost 5 years of gap in my study and not having PR I was struggling. I have almost applied for the 180+ jobs within two months and I got an interview invitation from around 10-15 companies but when it comes to the experience part I was not getting anywhere so finally one of my friends suggested me to get into the internship pathway to earn some real-life experience so this was the reason for me to get into the Internship pathway.

What have you learned the most during your internship? What skills have you developed?

I have got real-life experience. Worked on live projects. I have seen Data centres for the first time. I learnt about more Australian IT industries and work culture. I learnt how to configure router and servers. How to monitor the network and giving level 1 technical support to the client. I also developed teamwork skills. In short, I have learnt a lot which was beyond my expectation but it would not have been possible without the support of my host organisation (NetVault).

What benefits do you feel AI contributed to your internship and time in Australia?

I am thankful to AI for finding me the right company and finding me the right position that I actually wanted to learn.

What advice would you give future interns?

I would advise future interns to be patient even if it is taking longer than you expected to find a good company.  Make your goal clear for your internship that what you want to become and what you want to learn. Just do not waste your time by going with any company which does not fall into the area of your interest.  After getting placed into the right company do your best. Remember one thing it is always about them not about you so give your best to the company and eventually you will be rewarded accordingly trust me so learn as much as possible and try to give them your best and appreciate your host organisation for investing their resources into your future.

What do you enjoy most about Australia?

I enjoy the Queensland weather especially summer so I can have sweet mangoes and enjoy the beaches. I love the people here and the work environment and for me, Australia is the land of opportunity.
