More and more companies are choosing to do the recruitment and selection process online. This online process can be challenging for both recruiters and candidates, who must take the online stages with the same seriousness and commitment as the on-site stages. Therefore, preparing correctly will directly impact the result. If you want to stand out in the selection processes, check out some tips that can help your performance:

1. Research about the company

Search for information about the company and the vacancy which you are applying for. The official website and social networks are enough to have a reference to the organizational culture and what to expect in the interview. This makes the conversation more fluid and will show the recruiter that you took the initiative to research.

2. Test all the technology before starting

Test your connection, camera, lighting, sound and the video platform. Make sure you understand how it all works.

3. Select a proper location

The ideal scenario for your interview location is a secluded room in which you can shut out distractions, control the lighting, and display a generic background. Be sure to be in a quiet location and do not be sitting on your bed as it gives a poor impression.

4. Dress professionally

Dress up like you would for a face-to-face interview. Even if you are sitting down, wear nice pants and shoes as you never know when you will have to stand up. A suit jacket and solid shirt or blouse work best. Avoid prints or plaids as these don't look good when viewed via a monitor.

5. Look directly into the Camera

You might be tempted to look at the monitor or yourself but focus on making eye contact with your interviewer via the camera. It shows that you are confident.

6. Have a piece of paper and a pen ready

You can mark information about the position, the company or even other stages of the selection process. Have a copy of your resume in your sight line in case you must refer to dates, job titles, or numbers.

7. Take care of your marketing

As much as in the face-to-face interview, the recruiter expects you to talk about your skills and your main results. So, it's good to have that memorized. The recruiter also hopes to see confidence and desire in the eyes, even if through the camera.

If you're uncomfortable with the technology or how you look/sound on camera, the best you can do is practice, practice, practice. The more you practice, the better you'll get with not only online conferencing technology but the art of interviewing, too!
