Why did you decide to do your internship in Australia?
I wanted to try out a new experience. Something different from my usual work in my country.
What made this experience unique and special?
This experience is special because it opened my eyes to different cultures and made me a better and responsible person.
How has this experience impacted your future?
It impacted my future greatly since it made me more mature and more open-minded about other people's culture. The experience made me grow as a Chef because I now work faster and cleaner.
What was the highlight of your experience?
The highlight of my experience so far is doing three areas (the casbar kitchen, Room service kitchen and Tempo kitchen) all by myself in one of the busiest day in our casino. It pushed me to multi-task, be fast and prepare everything in advance. It was a feat I will never forget because after I finished the service, all I could do is do a small victory dance because I realized that I can do it.
What advice you would offer someone considering interning abroad in Australia?
Be social. Friends are essential especially in a new country. Get your own room because living with other people will add to your stress in the long run.
Internship Program Manager
My name is Keli and I am the Internship Program Manager in our Sydney office. I have worked for Australian internships for 2 years and 3 months now and I live in Wollongong very close to the beach. I travel to work each day by train and even through it takes me over a hour and a half to reach Sydney I am very happy and feel graceful to be part of such a fantastic organisation. In my spare time I love to walk to the beach, exercise, shop and I love travelling. I travelled to Europe last year including the Greek islands and Positano which were my favourite places and I am also visiting Tahiti in January for my honeymoon as I am about to get marred in early 2017.
How would you describe your work?
My work is very rewarding especially when we are able to find fantastic internship opportunities for our interns. Although it can be challenging at times I enjoy my work and working within a fabulous team of dedicated professionals who all thrive to work together and achieve collective goals as a team.
What do you like the most about your work?
I like the fact I can in essence change someones life by sourcing them an internship opportunity which can be a stepping stone to their future employment opportunities. So many interns have educational qualifications but minimal or no hands on experience and an internship allows an intern to experience a real work life experience in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Your message to the interns?
Make the most out of your internship every day you are there as what you put into your internship is what you will gain from the experience. Not only will you meet industry professionals who can help you possibly network, you will gain hands on experience in a real working environment.
