Why did you choose to complete an Internship?
I believe there are lots of reasons to take an Internship. But if you ask me one thing, I would say the reason why I decided to experience an Internship is to have the precious opportunity to learn new things and understand a new role and tasks a lot better than before.
What have you learned the most during your internship?
I have learned how important communication is in the business world. When I came to the office in my first week, I noticed people talk fast and understand each other effectively in a short time.
If you say “yes” when you don’t actually understand what they said, you’ll have no chance to ask them if they could repeat - unlike school because you are seen as a part of workers and your colleagues are more busy than you’d expect. I was afraid of asking them, but the fear is just nothing compared with not receiving the information you need.
What benefits do you feel AI contributed to your internship and time in Australia?
The Internship Program Supervisors are awesome! They are really willing to help us find the best workplaces and support us all the way from the beginning to end. If you have any problems or concerns, they are always with you and respond to your questions in no time. If I could live the moments before I chose AI again, I would do the same thing.
What advice would you give future interns?
Some say you should learn as much as possible because you can try out new things without the pressure of being wrong during an internship. I really agree with that, but more importantly I want you to see how people enjoy working.
You don’t need to push yourself in working too much; sometimes put your work aside, look around the office and it is a good idea to ask somebody to eat lunch together. You will get to know what people think about work and also you can make a career plan based on their opinions!
What do you enjoy most about Australia?
What I really enjoy in Australia is the life with my host family. Before coming to Australia, I could have chosen other options like share house, but I was interested in having a life with Australian people because I was curious about what kind of culture and manners they have.
My host family was very welcoming when I arrived and they have been taking a cooperative stance toward me. When I am stressed out because of my new life in Australia, they are eager to listen to me to solve my problems anytime. I am enjoying every single day with them.
Natana ZOlini - Designer
Introduction
I am a Brazilian Designer and have lived in Australia for almost 2 years. I studied a Bachelor of Industrial Design and Art & Illustrations. Before coming to Australia I used to work in an Advertising agency. During my spare time, I enjoy painting, playing the guitar, watching TV Series and spending time with friends. Recently I started an art business selling my authorial illustrations and paintings (Instagram @natanazolini.art).
How would you describe your work?
As a Graphic Designer, I create all sort of visual communication between AI and our Interns, Hosts and Partners. For instance, brochures, flyers, videos, banners etc.
Currently, I’m developing a new Brand Identity for Australian Internships, it is very exciting!
What do you like the most about your work?
What I like the most in my work is using creativity to transmit messages and information to people. For me, Design means creating thoughtful, emotional connections between products and people. I get fascinated to work on this path. Combined to that I love the teamwork and partnership in the work environment.
Your message to the interns?
At the beginning of my career, I was also an intern and during my internship I could learn big part of what I believe and do nowadays. Yes, there will be hard times but do not be scared and try to learn as much as you can. Self-knowledge and self-assessment are very important for improvement, keep yourself always connected with your essence.
