Hospitality Program


The Hospitality Program is a paid internship program offered to highly skilled candidates that are completing or have completed hospitality studies and have relevant hospitality experience.

The Hospitality Program offers 6, 9 or 12 month options.

Positions are available in Food and Beverage, Front Office, Housekeeping and Cookery.

Valuable Information on Hospitality Program:

  • Internship applications must be lodged a minimum of six (6) months prior to internship commencement or arrival in Australia. 5 months for candidates with a suitable working visa.
  • All candidates must complete a telephone interview before being accepted into the internship program.
  • Candidates must be willing to complete their internship in a hotel, resort or restaurant in any of the major tourist centres throughout Australia.
  • The first week in the workplace for all interns will be focussed on training and induction.
  • Interns will be required to cover the cost of their travel and accommodation.

Internship Payment for Hospitality Candidates:


Internships are arranged on a full time basis with interns working a minimum of 25 hours per week. The average hourly rate for interns is AU$12-$15. This wage may vary depending on the Host Organization and intern working hours.

 

Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA):


All interns who opt for the hospitality internship program must present a copy of their RSA certificate or complete the online RSA course, prior to commencing their internship in Australia. Required Application Documents

  • Completed Application Form.
  • Details of completed or current studies listed in a current resume – colour photo must be inserted in resume and submitted electronically (Templates are available).
  • Statement of results from your University (Academic records).
  • Statement indicating that the internship is a requirement of your course or that it is endorsed and supported by the University or employer (Only required for candidates doing their internship for accreditation).
  • Statement of Internship Objectives and how the internship relates to current studies or occupation (Templates are available).
  • Evidence of financial support or training wage. This may be included in the home university letter, the training body letter or as a separate document (AU$3000). 
  • Evidence of current Medical, Accident, Travel and Personal Liability Insurance (Available for purchase through Australian Internships. Our Insurance Policy).
  • Evidence of AUD$500 application fee is required to confirm and activate the processing of an application.


Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the Hospitality Internship Program candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Be between the age of 18 – 30
  • Minimum of 2 years tertiary education in hospitality
  • Minimum 6 months full time experience with leading hotel chains (candidates need to prove that their experience has been obtained on a continual basis with one property - short stints at several properties is undesirable)
  • Be currently enrolled in a tertiary course, or
  • Be a recent graduate within 24 months of course completion
  • High communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of the hospitality industry both domestically and internationally
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in a variety of departments
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in rural and remote locations


Start Dates

  • Interns have the flexibility of choosing their preferred start dates (allow for 5 – 6 months lead time).


Lead Time

  • 6 months for 442 Occupational Trainee Visa candidates
  • 5 months for candidates with proof of suitable working visas (e.g. Working Holiday Visa)


The application process for the Hospitality Program

Register interest online

Complete the online form and find out whether you are eligible for the program.

Pre-Screening interview

Submit your CV and Cover Letter and participate in a telephone or face-to-face interview to have your objectives and eligibility for the program assessed. .

Program Application

Complete and return the application form along with the supporting documentation and the AU$500 application fee.

Internship Negotiation

Australian Internships will negotiate your internship details and arrange an interview with a potential Host Organisation.

Internship Confirmation

Confirmation of training through a formal Training Agreement. Visa document collation.

Fee Payment

Final fees including placement, insurance, visa and service fees to be paid.

Visa processing

AI to negotiate with DIAC regarding visa processing. Expect 4 – 6 weeks for visa processing. AI will inform you once your visa is approved.

Confirm Travel Arrangements

After arrival please make contact with your Supervisor at Australian Internships.

Internship Commencement

AI will monitor your satisfaction and growth throughout your internship.

 

Please note that we require 6 months to negotiate your internship and to process your visa.
