“At that time, I decided to gain more practical exposure, which was not possible without the support of my agency in Australia. They helped me throughout my search for an internship and found me a position as a Commi Chef for 12 months at a luxurious hotel in Brisbane. Within 5 months of time span I got a promotion and a salary hike which is amazing. This experience also helped me learn the highest standards of International hospitality operation and kitchen management systems. Australian Internships has supported me throughout the visa process and provided me with tremendous information about the local culture. I would really like to thank their team for finding me such a great hotel and helping me all throughout my practical training in Australia. They are still in touch with me and helping me during my stay in Australia.”

"During my internship in the DNA analysis team at the forensic science service I am assisting with the validation project of the identifiler kit. We are trying to figure out if it is better to use the new identifiler kit for the pcr (polymerase chain reaction) instead of the two "old" ones, which are still in use now.
I´ve already learned so much which makes me really appreciating the opportunity to be able to do my internship in this field!" |

"During these six months I was able to learn in depth about the whole process of filmmaking. At the beginning I never thought that I would ever be capable to work in a production company. I would never be able to perform editing, shooting, fixing audio tracks, and also building DVDs. However, I began my internship and slowly started to improve my abilities and skills.
I started with a very fat training book from Final Cut Pro 2. Throughout this book I learnt how to edit step by step. My supervisors stayed beside me to support me when needed. After three months focusing on the training book, my supervisor gave me few clips to edit. Week by week my knowledge, my confidence and my responsibilities grew considerably. By the last few months I got more involved in bigger projects. I took care of the editing and the encodings for these projects. In the studio I learnt how to research and find good tutorials to help me overcome obstacles.
Now I am proud of my achievements. I worked hard, I kept focused on my tasks, I learnt as much as I could, I did my best. Work in another language, in a field that you have never got into is pretty challenging, even though, once you have done it you got the feeling of satisfaction and confidence. I had all the infrastructure, equipment, books, tutorials and also supervision to improve my skills and build my knowledge to be able to make documentaries by myself.
When I applied for the internship program through Australian Internships, I was thinking to check out something totally different. Something to drive me into another track. And I was right. Australian Internships’ crew helped me a lot, and they found the best place for my profile. Firstly, my host organisation is that sort of Film Studio where everyone could get involved in so many different productions - concerts, short films, pilots, series, shows, etc. There was such a beautiful mix of cultures that helped me to broaden my thoughts of religions and cultures.
If anyone asked me which aspect was the most valuable for me during this time, I would not know where to start from. I am just totally grateful to be part of this team and be given the opportunity to grow with them! I want to say thank you for their patience and attention throughout these six months.
I will never forget this time, and I am sure that all the knowledge that I got here will be useful forever and ever!"

"I am doing my internship at a company in Brisbane city for 16 weeks. I am very happy to be here. All my colleagues are very nice and friendly with me. I am in the Environment service and I am doing a project about solar energy. But I have the chance to go with one of my colleagues to see on what her job consists of. So I can see beautiful areas of the region of Brisbane and Queensland, Stradbroke Island for example. I can learn a lot about Australian vegetation as grass and trees, that are protected and Australian native vegetation. I am having a great experience and the chance to discover the beautiful country of Australia. It was my dream and I am here now!"

"Due to my studies in Germany I needed to do an internship about 8 weeks in a company in the working field of tourism. I've decided to complete it overseas, because I was on the one hand interested in the different culture and on the other hand I saw the advantage for my English skills.
In July 2008 I started my internship at a big Cruise Ship company, where my supervisor Mel welcomed me and presented me to the other girls in the office. I started with a trainee program on the computer, where I got an overview of the different cruises. In the afternoon I got the chance to test the lunch cruise. The captain showed me every part of the ship from the bridge to the engine room.
The next weeks I changed my working place every few days, so that I got to know every sales agency. After a few days I was able to work for myself in the booth, whereas my supervisor was always there to support me in any inquiries. The colleagues I worked with were a mix of all ages and nationalities. Some of them had the same age as me, so that we had a friendly acquaintance with each other, even if they were still my boss.
During my whole internship I was always in close contact with my internship supervisor, what helped me to review my own proceedings.
After every working day I did the balance, where I needed to count the money I've earned and to document everything. Afterwards I handed the money and my paperwork over to the cash controller, who was in charge of the whole money transfers. My Host Organisation as a big enterprise was a good choice to prepare myself for the studies, because I dealt with lots of different economic topics like advertisement, supply and demand and finances.
All in all the time in Sydney was unbelievable, I felt comfortable the whole time, my host family was very nice, so that we talked a lot about many different themes from TV shows to political issues. During my internship I developed on the one hand my English skills and my independence, on the other hand I've learned all about the economic issues of a big company. I can recommend everybody to absolve such an internship abroad."

“My internship was a great opportunity to improve my English level and get knowledge and experience about sports. At the beginning, it was a bit tough because of the language and low confidence level with staff interaction. However, after 3 months of internship I have improved my English skills and I have learnt a lot of things about sports in Australia.
Thanks to my host organisation, my supervisor and my boss I was watching a game of the Australian Football League (AFL) at the stadium; it was an amazing opportunity to get to know the rugby rules and understand the sense of the game. I had to stand up all the time because it was full of fans, I felt a chill on all my body, and I couldn’t believe it. Also, I started to compare the Rugby game with the passion for soccer in my country and it was unbelievable because people from Sydney enjoy the game and maintain control for the passion while in Colombia passion is passion and football is football.
I was also covering an Event in Sydney called Veteran’s fencing World Championships 2007 during the weekend, it was pretty cool because I had to make an interview with the Silver Medallist when they finished the competition, I was scared because it was my first time doing an interview in my second language, which was a big challenge in my career. At this event, I had the opportunity to share ideas with people from Japan, Italy, and Germany.
Everyone at the office was very kind and patient with me, they tried to teach me as much as they could and I tried to help them as much as I could. This Internship has been unforgettable; I think I have a lot of positive things to say in my country about this great professional practice and all the staff. My host organisation has had interns from different countries such as Germany, Brazil and Japan, but the best thing is that I’m the first Colombian journalist working and sharing information with them about my beautiful country in Australia.”

“My trip to Australia was one of the most important events of my life. The interaction with people from other nationalities helped me to expand the vision that I had of the world and make friends from Australia and people from other countries.
During my stay in the City of Brisbane I did English and leadership courses at the University of Queensland. I had the opportunity to do an Internship in “The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions”, being the first foreigner to complete an Internship in the institution; thanks to the excellent and efficient work of Australian Internships.
In that office I had extremely constructive experiences, where I acquired invaluable professional knowledge. I received legal training, I observed and analysed the oral trails with the “Prosecutor”–lawyer who opens the cases before Criminal Courts–, in the following places: District Court, Magistrate Court, Supreme Court, Mental Court, Children Court, Court of Appeal and in the High Court of Australia.
About my activities in the office; I received training in four different work groups, where I collaborated with different lawyers and Prosecutors; with this rotation I learnt the system and the organization of the different work groups. As well as this, I also participated in the qualification of witnesses and I attended conferences with prestigious judges.
During this magnificent experience, I had the opportunity to speak with some judges among them the Chief Justice of Queensland. I exchange with them different points of view about the diverse systems of justice in the world and about the justice system in Australia.
The most beneficial experience from a professional point of view was to learn the operation of the oral trails and observe the advantages and disadvantages of them; with the purpose being to teach them to Law students in Mexico to improve the criminal law system.
On the other hand, I spoke about the culture and values of my country as an Honorary Ambassador of the Rotary Club Chapultepec from Mexico City in the "Rotary Club of Brisbane Mid-City" and in the "Rotary Club of Jindalee", where I received a warm and friendly welcome. I do believe that study abroad is a fundamental part of an excellent professional career, if there is the opportunity to do an internship in a foreign institution.
I highly recommend Australian Internships for the extraordinary work they do for all their interns. Thank you very much Australian Internships.”

What makes a human 100% professional??????????? ATTITUDE
This is what I have learnt from my parents, my teacher, and most importantly my Profession. I count myself as a successful hotelier because i am having right and a bright attitude.
I am Sumeet Nathan, a successful intern from India. I am working with The Observatory Hotel Sydney NSW. This hotel is an example of unique beauty with 100 marvellous rooms, Dynamic Globe Bar and Galileo Restaurant.
I find myself very lucky to get this property as a platform to start my career. I completed a Bachelor of Hotel & Tourism Management in India. I chose Australia to start my career and Australian Internship to arrange my internship.
Everything was strange when I started my internship, new country, new people, but before you know it everybody becomes COULIGUES; the team gave me a warm welcome.
Now let me tell you about what I do with my team, I start at 6.30am in room service and help the restaurant when needed - TEAM WORK - I keep moving with orders and phone calls till 11:00am. We, the breakfast team, have 2 mottos: “KEEP MOVING” and “EVERYBODY EVERYTHING” this means keep moving so that things are done on time and in advance, and everybody has to do everything, when I get busy I get the hands to help automatically I never need to ask, this is how my team works, we keep smiling not only on front house but in back house as well and maintain a happy environment. I am also responsible for the mini bar in the rooms, restocking, checking expiry and making sure that the mini bar looks beautiful.
At Observatory we give the highest standard of service. We don’t make the guest feel like they are guest, we make them feel that this hotel is there home and they are just going out for a short time and they will be back with us again soon. When the guest checks in the Observatory the concierge not only takes the luggage but takes all the tiredness and stress of the guest ......... how ?????? By the warmest welcoming nature, and this makes them comfortable after their 15 hours of journey from overseas.
This property has made me extra ordinary professional hotelier, thanks to my college, thanks to my hotel and thanks to Australian Internships.
This was just a trailer; the movie is still coming up. Things are so nice for me, my colleagues are lovely to me, i am able to give the highest quality service & i am a successful hotelier because of one first word – ATTITUDE!
Don’t change the world but change your attitude and see the world changing.
My team says -: Do your best & leave the rest (to god).
Sumeet
